Importing the American way to China

Terry Collins has been named as manager of the Chinese team for the World Baseball Classsic.

I actually think this is a good choice, as Collins has a good record as a major league manager.

Year League Team Age G W L WP Finish
+----+-----------+--------+---+-----+----+----+------+------+
1994 NL Cent Houston 45 115 66 49 .574 2
1995 NL Cent Houston 46 144 76 68 .528 2
1996 NL Cent Houston 47 162 82 80 .506 2

1997 AL West Anaheim 48 162 84 78 .519 2
1998 AL West Anaheim 49 162 85 77 .525 2
1999 AL West Anaheim 50 133 51 82 .383 4
+----+-----------+--------+---+-----+----+----+------+------+
Anaheim 457 220 237 .481
Houston 421 224 197 .532
+----+-----------+--------+---+-----+----+----+------+------+
TOTAL 878 444 434 .506

Five years over .500 and five 2nd place finishes. That's not bad. He only had one bad year, and that was the last wone with Anaheim. And while he didn't get his teams into the playoffs, he didn't do badly. I don't think anyone expects China to get to the championship game, but I think they might have gotten better.

One thing I didn't know was that he was managing in Japan. So that could make things interestiing, from a xenophobic point of view.
